Crunchy vs crispy vs wax cracking squishy

Search for a crunchy squishy and you will find several very different toys sharing similar names. Here is a quick guide to what each name usually means, so you know what kind of crunch you are getting.
Crunchy squishy
The broadest name. It can mean any squishy that makes a crunching sound. Some are filled with beads or a grainy filling that crackles every time you squeeze, and they go back to shape afterwards. Others have a shell that cracks once.
Crispy squishy
Usually means a squishy with a crisp outer shell that cracks - the 脆皮捏捏 style. The shell is the star: the first squeeze breaks it with a sharp crunch, and then the inside is what you keep playing with.
Wax cracking squishy
A crispy squishy where the shell is wax. Wax gives a clean, brittle crack and breaks into small flakes. This is the term many online marketplaces use.
Where Crinklet fits
Crinklet squishies are handmade wax cracking squishies: a wax shell over a soft clay core, shaped like food. So they are crispy squishies and crunchy squishies too. The difference from bead-filled crunch balls:
| Bead-filled crunch ball | Crinklet (wax shell + clay) | |
|---|---|---|
| The crunch | Every squeeze, quieter and grainy | One big crack, then crumbles |
| After the crunch | Springs back | Clay squishes and holds its shape |
| Looks | Usually a ball or simple shape | Handmade food shapes |
Which one should you get?
If you want the same crackle all day, a bead-filled ball is the one. If you want that single loud, satisfying crack you see in videos - and then something soft to squish while you watch the next one - you want a crispy wax shell.
Crinklet squishies are for ages 15+ and are not food.
