How to play with a crispy squishy
Oct 02, 2026 · by Crinklet

You only get one first crack, so it is worth doing it right. Here is how to get the most out of a Crinklet, from the first squeeze to the last squish.
1. Get the sound ready
The crack is quiet and crisp, so play somewhere calm. If you are filming, hold the squishy close to the microphone. Many people film on a tray or a sheet of paper so the crumbs land somewhere easy to tip away.
2. Start slow
Press gently with your thumb first, near the edge, until you feel the shell start to give. Then squeeze a little harder. Going slowly gives you a series of small cracks instead of one quick snap, and the sound lasts longer.
3. Work around the shape
Each shape cracks differently. Lotus root slices crack around their holes, croissants along their folds, sushi between the topping and the rice. Turn the piece in your hand and press each part in turn.
4. Let the shell crumble
Once the shell is cracked all over, roll the piece gently between your palms and the flakes fall away. Tip them into the bin when you are done.
5. Squish the clay
Now the soft clay core is yours. It squishes like play-dough and keeps whatever shape you press into it, so you can flatten it, dent it, or roll it into a ball. It does not spring back on its own.
Good to know
- Each Crinklet is handmade, so small differences in colour and shape are normal, and every crack pattern is unique.
- The shell cracks once. That first crunch is the main event; pack sets give you several.
- Crinklet squishies are for ages 15+. They look like food but are not food - do not eat them.
